At Y.K.K.F. (India) we have programs for the full
family : men, women and children. We offer the very best instructions,
low monthly rates, great teacher to students ratio and Chief Instructor
Sensei Jehangir Shroff teaches all students and classes.

Children’s Karate :
At Y.K.K.F.(India) , children are important. Sensei Shroff and
his team of experienced, qualified, adult instructors teach all
children in a disciplined, focused, respectful, learning environment.
Learning and positive character development is our primary focus.
Children have fun, learn correct technique, to believe in themselves,
reach their goals and gain confidence.
Classes : A typical
children’s Karate class starts off with a traditional opening
ceremony which emphasizes proper Dojo etiquette and includes bowing,
and mutual respect. After the opening ceremony, children perform
warm-up exercises which develop all-around physical fitness (cardio,
strength, & flexibility). Next, they are instructed in performing
proper basics. This includes blocking techniques, punching techniques,
striking techniques, kicking techniques, stances and footwork,
breathing techniques, etc. After the basics, children perform
authentic ancient Kata (forms) from Okinawa, Japan. After Kata
training, children participate in sparring in a supervised, disciplined,
structured, and safe environment. Periodically, children are also
instructed in how to perform various falling and rolling techniques,
throwing techniques and various self-defence techniques. An emphasis
on behaviour and character development is always part of the curriculum.
Caring Instruction :
It is very rare for a Head Instructor to personally teach children.
Sensei Shroff cares and teaches all children and classes and does
his utmost to accommodate everyone’s learning needs and
to bring out the best performance and character of all of his
students.
Benefits for Children :
Traditional karate develops effective self-defence skills, physical
fitness and positive character traits in children which includes
confidence, discipline, self-esteem, respect for themselves and
others, focused mind, paying attention, perseverance, a solid
work ethic, a positive “I can do it” attitude, the
confidence to say “no”to unhealthy peer pressure,
personal motivation, how to work well and co-operate with others.
At Y.K.K.F.(India) we don’t just teach children the physical
aspects of self-defence skills, we also teach and help children
to develop a positive attitude throughout their life.
Adult Karate : At
Y.K.K.F.(India), classes are geared for the serious study of Okinawan
Goju-Ryu Karate-Do and are conducted in a friendly traditional
manner. Practical self-defence, all around physical fitness, and
positive character development is the main focus. Teaching methods
are also conducted traditionally and consist of knowledgeable
instructions. Our teaching methods and standards are of the highest
quality. As a result, our students are highly motivated, skilled
practitioners, with high performance level who exhibit positive
character traits.
At Y.K.K.F.(India) our adult Karate program is for people who
sincerely have the desire to learn traditional Karate. Sensei
Shroff personally teaches every student and classes and does his
very best to help every student reach their highest potential.
Special Self-Defence Programme For
Women : We have introduced Special Self Defence
program for women in Mumbai. From a school going girl to a typical
housewives or working girl anyone can learn a set of Defensive
techniques specially selected and developed by our professionals.
Besides all these techniques the part is to prepare the mind to
be stable at all situations at all the times. that could be achieved
by giving a brief theory. It has been observed that a persons
with a strong body and excellent skills fails to defend themselves
because their mind stops working in these kind of situations.
it is very commonly seen in women. Let the women grow with a sense
of security and self confidence, in the knowledge that what they
have learnt, could one day help them save their lives.

About Karate : Karate
is a form of unarmed self-defence which emphasises effective self-defence
techniques, all-around physical fitness (strength, cardio &
flexibility), and the development of positive character traits and
life philosophy in its participants. Depending on the style of Karate
studied and the level of knowledge of the person teaching and training,
it contains all aspects of the Martial Arts including; punches,
strikes, blocks, kicks, stances & footwork, grappling, takedowns
and throwing, wrist locks, choke holds, ground fighting, ancient
Kata, as well as an emphasis on becoming a good and honest member
of society. In fact, improving ones-self and becoming a better human
being is the true aim of traditional Karate and the self-defence
techniques studied would only be used as a last resort.
Style of Karate :
There are many different styles of Karate. At Y.K.K.F.(India) we
train and teach authentic Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do (Hard/Soft
style Empty/Hand Way) which is one of the most popular styles of
Karate in the world.
Brief Goju-Ryu Karate-Do History :
Although the birth place of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do is Okinawa, Japan,
it is rooted in Chinese Kung-Fu. It was brought to Okinawa by Master
Kanryo Higaonna (1853-1915) in 1881 who had studied under the legendary
Kung-Fu Master, Ryu Ryu Ko in the City of Foochow, China. Ryu Ryu
Ko is believed to have studied in the Southern Shaolin Temple and
was a master of White Crane and Southern Shaolin Kung-Fu. Kanryo
Higaonna Sensei is considered to be the founder of Naha-te (Naha
Hand), Naha being a City in Okinawa, Japan. Kanryo Higaonna Sensei’s
top student and successor was Chojun Miyagi Sensei (1888-1953).
In 1915, after the death of Kanryo Higaonna Sensei, Chojun Miyagi
Sensei made three research trips to China to study. In 1930 he named
his style of Karate Goju-Ryu (Hard/Soft Style) from poem three of
the Eight poems of the fist found in the Chinese Kung-Fu text the
Bubishi which states that ‘The way of inhaling and exhaling
is softness and hardness’. Goju-Ryu follows the Yin/Yang principles
of the opposites of nature.
Chojun Miyagi Sensei passed away in 1953 and was succeeded by Ei’ichi
Miyazato Sensei (1922-1999) who continued to instruct at the famous
Garden Dojo which was located at Miyagi Sensei’s house. Another
one of Miyagi Sensei’s senior students, Koshin Iha Sensei
(1922- ) was the assistant to Miyazato Sensei. In 1957 Miyazato
Sensei established his own Dojo in the Asato District of Naha City
naming his Dojo Jundokan.
Shihan Ron Yamanaka, Head Instructor
of Yudansha Kobujitsu Karate Doh Federation , had the great honour
and pleasure of training at the famous Jundokan Dojo in Okinawa,
Japan and received instruction from both Ei’ichi Miyazato
Sensei and Koshin Iha Sensei. Sensei Jehangir Shroff is
a direct student of Shihan Ron Yamanaka. Sensei Shroff
trains and teaches Goju-Ryu Karate-Do in the same manner as his
master Shihan Ron Yamanaka learned in Okinawa.
Karate Philosophy
: The Philosophy of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do is immense.
First and foremost Karate is an art of peace. The physical techniques
are trained as a means to better ones-self physically, mentally
and spiritually in all aspects of life and are not to be misused
in any way. A true student of Karate would never start a fight and
would only use the fighting techniques of Karate as a last resort.
Kata : Kata (form
or mould) is the essence of Karate. It was designed by various masters
as a way of handing down their style or school, thus providing a
logical way to study, practice and pass down what they felt were
important techniques from teacher to student. Kata is a series of
pre-arranged movements designed for fighting multiple opponents
at one time and is used to help mould the Karate practitioner physically,
mentally and spiritually. Most of the Kata of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do
originated in China and were brought to Okinawa in 1881 by Kanryo
Higaonna Sensei. Chojun Miyagi Sensei created Gekisai Dai Ichi and
Gekisai Dai Ni. He also developed a version of Sanchin Kata and
created the Kata Tensho which he developed from a Chinese Kata called
Rokkishu.

Kata is the most important part of a Karate practitioner’s
training. It develops strength, cardio, flexibility, speed, power,
coordination, breathing techniques, self-defence skills, Qigong
(universal energy), self-discipline, focused mind, confidence, memorization
skills, how to pay attention to detail, perseverance, a hard work
ethic, etc. However the ultimate aim of Kata is the unity of the
body, mind, and spirit.
Our Federation
Yudansha Kobujitsu Karate Doh Federation is an
international organisation of traditional Goju-Ryu Karate-Do practitioners
with official branch Dojos world wide. The federation is dedicated
to the training and teaching of authentic Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do
that was passed down by Goju-Ryu Karate-Do founder Chojun Miyagi
Sensei and his successor Ei’ichi Miyazato Sensei and than
Saiko Shihan Ron Yamanaka.
